Happy National High Five Day!

21 Apr

This day is all about two of my favorite things: enthusiasm and high fives.

National High Five Day, which is always the third Thursday of April, began in 2002 when three friends at the University of Virginia decided to brighten days all around campus by giving high fives.  The day has now expanded to be covered by various media outlets and even rolled out a new scholarship program in honor of its tenth year.

Jeffrey Beck, a fellow classmate of mine at Medill, loves making up new handshakes and one of them qualifies as a high five.  In honor of NH5D, I want to share it with the world.  It’s called the turkey.  One person makes their hand into a fist with the thumb pointing out.  Another person goes up for a normal high five.  When the two hands meet, the tail feathers meet the body and neck of a turkey.
